What to Expect

Join us in-person at Arizona Bouldering Project on November 15th at 9:00am - 1:00pm for a day filled with education, storytelling, and connection featuring clinicians, diabetes advocates, community educators, and real people living with diabetes.
Each session highlights the unique lived experiences of People of Color and delivers applicable tools you can use right away—whether you live with type 1, type 2, prediabetes, gestational diabetes, or support someone who does.

Doors Open 

Start your morning by grabbing coffee and breakfast from Chickie's Coffee and connecting with local health and wellness vendors from across the Valley. Explore resources, ask questions, and get to know the organizations here to support you.

9:30 am

Panel Discussion

Up next is a 30-minute Community Panel, featuring two Valley-based health organizations sharing the resources they offer and why staying connected to your community is such a powerful part of living well with diabetes.

10:00 am 

Bachata Lesson

Get ready to move! Phoenix Bachata Dance will lead a beginner-friendly dance lesson designed to get your body energized and your confidence flowing. No experience needed — just bring your curiosity and a willingness to have fun as we celebrate community through movement.

11:00 am

Down Time 

Wind down from the dance lesson, grab a drink, and chat with vendors and partners from across the Valley. Use this time to explore resources and make new connections.

Keynote Speaker 

We’re thrilled to introduce Shawneece Stevenson, MSW, ACC — a social worker, certified life and wellness coach, and passionate diabetes advocate who believes in using her lived experience to inspire change and spark possibilities for others. Shawneece will share her powerful journey of living with diabetes and her work advancing health equity and wellness through her small business, Spark&Passion, LLC.

We’ll close out the day with final announcements, prize drawings, and next steps for staying connected with Diversity in Diabetes and our community partners. Thank you for spending the morning with us and being part of this movement.
