Biography

Almetria Turner, CCHW, CLES, CPPC, CPST, CMHE, RYT, RPYT, REC-C, IMH-E, MA (she/her) is a Multi-Hyphenate Wellness DisruptHER, Reproductive Justice and Health Equity Advocate redefining holistic, community, and maternal health to improve positive birth experiences, healthier outcomes and sustainable lifestyles.

She earned her Bachelors and Masters degree in Journalism with an emphasis in Advertising and Public Relations from the University of Memphis, a Certificate in Women’s Entrepreneurship from Cornell University, a Certificate in Community Health from the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing and a Certificate as a CDC National Diabetes Prevention Program Lifestyle Coach from Emory University Rollins School of Public Health.

She is the proud owner of Fit and Finally Free, a lifestyle, weight management and fitness company, Roots and River Wellness, a full spectrum doula and perinatal service company helping women, birthing people and their families become rooted and grounded while celebrating the joys of pregnancy, postpartum and parenthood and RunHer Performance, a run coaching and event management company.

As a well sought-after panelist, motivational and keynote speaker for over 60+ Fortune 100 and 500 companies, schools, churches and non-profit organizations, Almetria has been featured and published in several local, regional, national and international mediums and news outlets.

Almetria holds several certifications in maternal, perinatal mental and mental health, childbirth and lactation education, long distance running, yoga and fitness.

Currently, she is a Program Advisory Board Member of Cribs for Kids, Advisory Board Member of the United States Lactation Consultant Association, the Training Collaborative of Junior Leagues Advisory Board, Yoga Alliance, USA Track and Field Association-Tennessee Chapter, the TDH Disparities Advisory Group, the TDH Infant Mortality Review Task Force, PSI Perinatal Mental Health Alliance for People of Color, the Shades of Blue Project, the Blue Dot Project, Running Industry Diversity Coalition, Gamechangers Women of Color Run Coach Mentor, the National Association of Community Health Workers, Southeast Community Health Worker Network, ForbesBLK, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

In 2024, she was commissioned and appointed to the Tennessee Department of Health Maternal Mortality Review Committee and Prevention Team by the Commissioner of Health to serve for the next three years to review all deaths occurring during pregnancy or within a year of pregnancy, and report recommendations for changes to any law, rule, or policy that would promote the safety and well-being of women and the prevention of maternal deaths.

She is the author of an E-book entitled, "How to Shop, Cook and Eat Healthy on a Budget," a E-Cookbook, "The Healthy Budgetnista: 25 Recipes for Busy People on the Go" and is the co-author of "Storealities: A Collection of Stories By Empowering Women to Empower Women."
